The tourist mine of Ocnele Mari is located in the town of the same name, 8 km from Râmnicu Vâlcea, in a picturesque area (near the Olt valley), with tradition in
thermal tourism (Caciulata, Olăneşti, Călimăneşti) and religious tourism (the monastery).
It has been open to the public and turned into a tourist attraction since 2009, visitor access is ensured by transporting minibuses from the surface inside the salt mine.
The exploitation of the salt of Ocnele Mari began already in the Neolithic, continuing in the Bronze Age and in the Iron Age, as demonstrated by the tools found in archaeological sites. Here was also
the Dacian fortress of Buridava.
The Ocnele Mari saline solution offers optimal conditions for relaxation, leisure and treatment: volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, billiards, minicart. Children's playgrounds are equipped with
swings and slides.
In the salina there is a room for organizing events, a restaurant, a wine cellar, a bar, a fast food restaurant and a souvenir shop
Inside there is also a church dedicated to Saint Varvara and Saint George.
